Where are you at today? Survive

If you feel like you are in Survive today, this section is for you.

Perhaps the basics are working. You’re getting through the days and meeting your commitments, but there’s little spare capacity. Most of your energy goes into keeping everything moving and ticking along, rather than creating what’s next.

Nil desperandum” is a Latin phrase.
It translates to “Never despair

Survive Fire with sunrise

Surviving is succeeding. It’s required to thrive.

“We have evolved to survive. Every one of us is here because, generation after generation, our ancestors found ways to keep going. They adapted, learned, helped each other and survived.

Some days we move forward. Some days we hold our ground. Some days we rest, recover and rebuild our capacity. All of that counts.

And as we survive, we learn. Often in small ways we barely notice. Problems solved. Lessons learned. Skills mastered. Experience becomes instinct and, over time, wisdom.

Your true capacity is about far more than cash flow. It is energy, health, skills, knowledge, confidence, relationships, resources and the ability to act.

So take a breath. Acknowledge your wins. Start from where you are. Notice what is already working and what you have. Choose your next step and take it.

Keep going. Keep learning. Keep growing.
By surviving, you give yourself the chance to flow and thrive.”

Simon Hedley

Being in Survive is not a judgement on you or your value. I want you to really know that, even and especially if it feels like everyone and the world does or would judge you if they knew.

In fact, the vast majority of people around the world operate in this mode. They’re working hard, paying the bills, meeting responsibilities and doing their best with what they have. Doing their best to survive another day, another week, another month.

I want you to know three things:

  1. Your Past Does Not Define You. Remember your current position is a snapshot, not a life sentence. Your past may explain where you are today, but it does not have to determine where you go next.
  2. You are not alone. You don’t have to keep trying to survive alone, even if it feels that way, and your brain has collected years of evidence suggesting otherwise.
  3. The future does not have to be like the past. Even seemingly small changes, repeated over time, can create remarkable transformations.

A Reminder For The Next 24 Hours

Will take less than a minute to cover

Start with a fresh perspective.
Remember, comparison can steal your joy.

Before comparing yourself with anyone else, start with perspective.

If, over the next 24 hours, you have food, clean water and somewhere safe to sleep, you’re already fortunate in ways that can be easy to overlook.

Your situation may still be difficult. Your bills still need paying. Your goals still matter. But comparison, especially in the age of social media and AI, rarely helps. Gratitude and clear thinking are a better foundation for whatever comes next.

A Quick Exercise

Prioritisation Makes A Difference

I believe you have the ability to connect, to communicate, to ask questions, to inquiry and to take action.

That’s what it takes to make progress. Step by step, moment by moment.

The challenge I’ve found is when it’s hard to know what to prioritise. So sometimes the biggest priority is to take a breath and consider 30 days from now, or 7 days from now, or 24 hours from now..

Then think about what are the most essential priorities to complete.

When you have 1, 2 or 3 priorities to focus on each day, I’ve found it can make all the difference to your ability to make progress.

Then once you have your priorities clearer, schedule in time to move them forward. The spare five / ten minutes add up. The hour before and after work helps. That focussed 3 hours in an evening or weekend.

Scheduling your success becomes really important when you’re in survival especially. It’s all to easy to get caught up and never give yourself the five minutes each day to make the small steps which compound.

It’s also important not to burn the candles at every end and in the middle, and us up all your capacity. Being able to focus when you need is good, however burning yourself out isn’t the plan. We’ve all done, I know I have. Your rest is important, staying hydrated and giving your brain and self the best chance for creativity and clarity.
